I know I've told this story before, but it bears repeating:

My first ever show, Nassau Coliseum 1/11/79...hearing the jam section of JACK STRAW, having only up til then been familiar with the sweet but comparatively tepid version on Europe '72....

I never realized the dizzying heights this band could achieve live in concert...it was like the moment Charlie went thru the roof of the Chocolate Factory and out into the stratosphere...I never looked back...been on the Bus ever since :-)

My moment wouldn't be at an actual show (I only got to see one, and it wasn't too good [12/31/79]), but rather, when the Closing Of Winterland was broadcast on TV (just a year earlier!) When they went into Dark Star, after not playing it for who knows how long, and also the closing, heavy-duty jam of Terrapin, were both transcendent moments for me... that's still my favorite live Terrapin.
